GEC+ Cape Town The GEC+ Cape Town is jointly presented in collaboration with UCT GSB, Accelerate Cape Town and the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation. This event brings together global experts in entrepreneurial research, ecosystem development and socio-economic growth. Global Entrepreneurship Research Network (GERN) The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation, a member of GERN, is hosting the GERN Annual General Meeting as part of the GEC+ Cape Town which will gather GERN members from overseas.

Cape Town and Understanding Ecosystems For Entrepreneurs Understanding Ecosystems Jonathan Ortmans will moderate a discussion among experts in developing smarter playbooks in nurturing healthier ecosystem for entrepreneurs. This panel looks at Cape Town’s contribution to the global entrepreneurship ecosystem. The panel will also examine and explore local conditions that contributes towards collaborative capital for ecosystem growth and development Jonathan Ortmans is joined by Victor Hwang (Kauffman Foundation) Tim Harris (WESGRO) and Chris Schroeder (GEN Senior Advisor and author of Start Up Rising) in a discussion about creating a conducive environment to accelerate the development of an inclusive entrepreneurship ecosystem. Against a backdrop of the 2017 Startup Genome Ecosystem Rankings and the Global Entrepreneurship Index there are many positives to celebrate, but equally many opportunities to strengthen Cape Town’s position as a robust and sustainable entrepreneurship ecosystem.

Entrepreneurial Mindset Research Agenda Phil Auerswald, Executive Director of GERN will guide a discussion led by Prof Kelly Shaver, Fredell Jacobs and Immanuel Commarmond that unpacks the core methodology behind the construction of an entrepreneurial mindset measurement instrument Entrepreneurial mindset research under the stewardship of GERN is a collaboration between the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation and Mindcette to design and construct a universal tool to measure entrepreneurial mindset. The panel will share the aim of the research and some insights into the process so far as well as future plans to involve more GERN members.
