GCSE Physical Education Comparing Two Types of Training Session
Learning Objectives By the end of this lesson pupils should: ü Understand how the principles of training help create different training sessions ü Define what ‘aerobic’ and ‘anaerobic’ fitness are
Case Study Jack and Tom are brothers and both do athletics. Jack is a very good 100 m sprinter and Tom runs the 1500 m. They both use interval training to improve their performance. However, there sessions are quite different. This is due to how the ‘principles of training’ are applied to the different training sessions.
After Looking at the Sessions… ü What components of fitness and exercise are being concentrated on? ü What ‘principles of training’ have been applied to the training sessions? ü How have these ‘principles of training’ been applied?
Aerobic Fitness Aerobic - ‘with oxygen’ If exercise is not too fast and is steady, the heart can supply all the oxygen the muscles need.
Anaerobic Fitness üAnaerobic - ‘without oxygen’ If exercise is done in short, fast bursts, the heart cannot supply blood and oxygen to muscles as fast as the cells use them
Learning Objectives (revisited) By the end of this lesson pupils should: ü Understand how the principles of training help create different training sessions ü Define what ‘aerobic’ and ‘anaerobic’ fitness are
