Firstly, you must: Mrs Loxterkamp’s class: - Follow the individual instructions that Mrs Loxterkamp has given you - If you have not had a 1 -1 with ILO – produce a detailed A 4 drawing of either of the following: selfportrait or a portrait of a celebrity. You must use a full tonal range from white to almost black Mrs Toogood’s classes: - Follow the individual drawing tasks that were agreed in your 1 -1 - If you have not had a 1 -1 with CTO – produce 3 detailed drawings from your ‘urban environment’ photos (or other photos you have taken). These must use a full tonal range, black-white or be accurate colour representations. Use the ‘drawing Powerpoint’ to help you decide on the style and materials Use the following slides to help you make decisions about the style and materials you will use.
AO 3 – drawing and recording Tonal drawing with pencil • • Light to dark Work in layers Remember the highlights Think about mark making techniques Formal elements: Line, shape – sketch the shapes first Tone, form – add the darker tones (values) to make the 3 D form emerge. Build the range of tones from the darkest to the lightest Texture, pattern – think about how you use your pencils to make different textures eg. Stipple/hatching Composition – consider how your drawing sits on a page – is it a close up/is it cropped/ how will you stop it from floating on the page?
Remember: get the shape right first before you add any tone, texture, colour etc.
GCSE Student work Photo realism – this will take ages but will gain you top marks in A 03 Professional artist: Paul Cadden
Remember: don’t let the drawing ‘float’ in the middle of the page. Give it context.
Other materials and ways of working: These are ink drawings. Left: Fujiko Rose, an expressive and partially imagined landscape Right: Hiromi Miura, close up botanical drawings Both of these examples are from life but have a flavour of the artist’s style in the way they are presented
Remember: you can use materials in different ways to create different effects – don’t be afraid to experiment.
Coloured pencil drawings These drawings are made from life or photographs. The bottom drawings are bird’s eye view images in a realistic style. The right hand image has had the colours ‘turned up’ to give it a more glamorous appeal.
Remember: the highlights and shadows will make your drawing look ‘real’ and leave you more room to vary the tones in between.
Continuous line drawing Build your shape in to form and the line in to tone in layers without taking your tool from the paper.
When you have completed your drawing tasks (slide 2): • Complete any unfinished tasks from AO 1, AO 2, AO 4 where you can • Complete Microsoft Teams work set • Make a plan for your AO 4 (final piece) ideas for when we return • Do more drawing!!!
