CONNECTOR Last lesson we looked at SMART goals. What method of training did you set your SMART goals for? How many other methods of training can you think of?

BIG PICTURE You will learn about the 6 different methods of training. You will work in small groups to find out the key information and feedback to your group. Some students may be asked to present their findings to the class.
LEARNING OUTCOMES All pupils will understand different methods of training. Most pupils will explain the effects of different methods of training. Some pupils will match a specific training session to a sportsperson.
TASK 1 1 2 3 Using the GCSE book can you identify six different methods of training? Define the six methods of training using your GCSE books. Working in groups of 4 you will be given a method of training. As a group you must; a – Give one example of the method of training. b – Identify 2 advantages of the method of training. c – Identify one sport that this type of training could be used for.

SUMMARY Complete the summary table for the method of training which would be used to develop the different components of health related and skill related fitness. Define aerobic and anaerobic training. Complete the table identifying which methods of training are aerobic and anaerobic.
REVIEW Students recap the 6 methods of training and advantages of them. Bonus marks for identifying a relevant sport.
AN EXAMPLE OF INTERVAL TRAINING Sprinting for a distance of 60 m. Followed by a rest of 2 mins. Repeat – you could change the distance or the time.
AN EXAMPLE OF CONTINUOUS TRAINING Jogging for 20 minutes A brisk walk for 1 mile
AN EXAMPLE OF FARTLECK TRAINING Using a variety of terrain (using hills and flats) Sprinting for 10 seconds followed by jogging for 1 minute Repeat 10 times.
AN EXAMPLE OF CROSS TRAINING A mixture of training using different methods of training and different resources. 10 mins running, 10 mins cycling, 10 mins rowing Could be changed as to measure distance instead of time.
AN EXAMPLE OF CIRCUIT TRAINING A circuit is a number of exercise. Press-ups, sit-ups, jogging, wall sit, chin ups, step ups. Exercises can be performed for time – 30 seconds then move station.
