History Curriculum Map Autumn 10 11 Spring Summer Paper 2 Period Study Superpower relations and the Cold War, 1941– 91 Students answer three questions that assess their knowledge and understanding. The first two questions are compulsory. For the third question, students select two out of three parts. Paper 2 British Depth Study Early Elizabethan England, 1558– 88 Students answer a single three-part question that assesses their knowledge and understanding. The first two parts are compulsory. For the third part, students select one from a choice of two. Paper 3 Germany 1918 – 1939 Section A Students answer a question based on a provided source and a question that assesses their knowledge and understanding. Section B Students answer a single four-part question, based on two provided sources and two provided interpretations. Paper 1 Thematic Study: Crime and Punishment 1000 -present Section A: Students answer a question assessing knowledge plus a two-part question on two provided sources. Section B: Students answer three questions that assess knowledge and understanding. Two questions are compulsory. Be able to analyse events to find connections that explain the way in which events unfolded 4. Be able to write fluently in response to the exam questions, using the specific exam techniques 5. Be able to evaluate given interpretations using their own knowledge 6. Understand the demands of each style of questioning

How can I support my child in becoming an outstanding Historian? What does my child need to do? What can I do to support them? 1. Learn the historical facts for each topic Test their knowledge using the factual quizzes 2. Develop ability to quickly recall facts Create flash cards for each examination topic 3. Write exam answers under the pressure of time Time their writing of answers at home – each question has specific time allocations 4. Be able to write fluently and coherently, especially in the longer answers Get them to plan their answers and then explain their points before they write it down. 5. Create mind maps and flashcards for each of the examination topics Test them on the content from the course using the flashcards and mind maps. Even display them around the house.
