Turbojet Engine
Turbojet Engine
Turbojet Engine Advantages Jet Propulsion q Sp. Wt is ¼ times the reciprocating engine. q No reciprocating parts , free from unbalance forces. q Small frontal area & better aerodynamic shape. q Thrust is applied directly there is no loss of power transmission. q Continuous combustion gives continuous thrust.
Turbojet Engine Disadvantages Jet Propulsion q Particularly at low press. , thermal efficiency is lower. q The plant is very noisy. q Compression ratio is not constant. q Materials are costly & life short.

Ram Jet Engines
Ram Jet Engines
Basic Characteristics of Ram Jet Engines o No moving parts & light weight as compared with turbojet engines. o Mass production at relatively low cost. o For steady combustion certain devices in the form of flame holders or pilot flames are required. o At low & moderate speeds , the fuel consumption is too large. The fuel consumption however decreases flight speed.
