About the Author • Gary Paulsen is an author who targets young audiences with his young adult fiction, adventure novels, and nonfictional works. Many of his books take place in the outdoors and the peacefulness of nature. Books such as his famous novel Hatchet and many others have themes of survival and human endurance. Bits and pieces of his stories are personal experiences that he endured as a kid. Through the challenges he puts his characters through, he allows readers to connect with the characters and put themselves in their shoes. He challenges his readers to use their imagination in all his books.
More about Gary Paulsen • As a young child Gary bounced from school to school, eventually graduating with a D average. He wandered into a library as a teenager to find warmth and left with a library card that would forever change his life. From that point on Gary would get lost in books and read himself to sleep. That cold day that lead him to the library turned out to be the day that made him want to become a writer. Today he is a best selling author and has won many awards with his books. He says reading saved his life and made him who he is today.
