Details About Projects Abroad • My organisation is called Project Abroad is a volunteer program that works in over 27 developing countries. • The Volunteering activities for project abroad are based around using your skills to help. • Believes that everyone has rights and needs to be helped and looked after. • The specific program I chose was the internship in Cambodia (mainly in the city of Phnom penh).

Life expectancy- 59. 3 years (males) 63 (female) Up to year 9 is compulsory for Cambodian children Enrolment--primary school, 94. 4%; grades 7 to 9, 33. 9%; grades 10 to 12, 16. 4%; - (http: //www. state. gov/r/pa/ei/bgn/2732. htm ) hardly any kids are enrolled in high school therefore it is harder for them to access jobs. Why has this country got social justice issues? • Violence against children (domestic violence, sexual abuse, ) • The police take part in the criminal acts themselves. (bad law enforcement) • People get discriminated and abused for who they are and there backgrounds. • Sex trafficking • Unfair punishments , • help needs to be given to people who need it (diseased, disabled). • •

Specifics Of The International Human Rights Internships in Cambodia The specifics of the program are: • That you use your skills to help them…. You use your education and do the things they cant do! • The interns work with the human rights organizations in the city Phnom Penh. They are non-profit that put an emphasis on rights and helping local communities. • Help the people understand their own rights. • You work under the supervision of local staff and depending on your level of interest or background can work in either housing rights, women's rights, rights of indigenous people, and workers’ rights. • The Majority of work is done inside an office, can be paper work, translating or even researching , collecting reports and putting reports together.

What is The Issue I am Addressing There are numerous Social justice issues that my volunteer program helps to address: • rights and dignity of human being. • Helping people that have been kicked out of their country and houses. • Housing rights • Helping peoples education. • Peoples understandings of the law. • Laws that the people agree with.

Application Process’ • • You have to have at least three years of a related undergraduate degree as well as believing strongly in human rights and justice issues. Have to put aside at least two months for the internship.
