Ganga • Ganga is the traditional music of Bosnia. It has: • Small groups of singers • Groups are usually of young girls who are close friends and who have sang together for a long time. • Emphasizes the interval of a major second. • Interval – the given space between two notes. • Ganga has three voices – a leading voice and an accompanying voice. • Ganga is not sung by professional singers.
Gender Differences • Women: • Sing in small, exclusive groups of close friends. • Groups last from early childhood to marriage. • Women do not sing ganga with men. • Men: • Allowed to sing with different groups of people from different villages. • Male-only groups • Men do not sing ganga with women.
