WHY DOES GAMIFICATION WORK? The psychology behind Gamification is very simple. Humans want to feel appreciated and by the use of gaming tactics it allows for the consumers to have control. Gamification allows humans to be reinforced for good behavior and gives them a sense of achievement. Along with this, users get to explore, gain exclusivity, set goals and complete tasks, and track their progress all while releasing dopamine like playing video games. 5
EXAMPLES OF GAMIFICATION STARBUCKS Starbucks created a rewards app where you can accumulate points/stars for every drink purchased and as you accumulate stars, your level of membership increases. The more stars earned, the more benefits and the more free drinks and treats are given. The design of the app is to engage customers by giving them a feeling of urgency as the stars decrease over time when not used and giving them rewards as consumers are more consistent.

EXAMPLES OF GAMIFICATION FOREST Forest is an online app that helps you stay focused on daily tasks without distractions like social media. The idea is that as you’re working on your particular task, it plants a seed and it grows as you get closer and closer to finishing your task. Every time you get distracted the tree slowly begins to die and the trees accumulated over time eventually turn into a forest. The entire purpose of the app is to build a forest while tracking and finishing your tasks.
