GALILEO AND THE LEANING TOWER OF PISA Galileo Galilei ( 1564 - 1642 ) was an Italian physicist who is famous for being the first to observe the planets through a telescope and prove theory that planet Earth circles the sun. He had a theory that items of different weights fall at the same speed. In order to prove his theory, Galileo climbed the nearly 300 stairs of the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa so that he could drop the different items over the side. Many people might think that a kilo of metal will faster than a bag of feathers, the same size as the ball. But not according to Galileo’s theory. Even though a bag of feathers is much lighter than a ball of metal, both items land at the same time.
