SEE: Social Economy and Social Entrepreneurship for inclusion of disadvantaged women in labour market Co-funded by Human Rights Fund 2019 – Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Target Group: vulnerable groups, mainly women in a situation or risk of social exclusion and with difficult access to employment. The target group of people involved in the project activities are: experts in social economy and social enterprise; professionals involved in social and work inclusion; experts on women's inclusion and women empowerment policies; representatives of local public bodies and political decision makers; social enterprises; civil organizations committed to equal opportunities and inclusion; universities and research institutes; people interested in the topic of the project.
Something about context The empowerment and autonomy of women is central to realizing women’s rights and gender equality; it is a key to achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals. Promoting the fulfillment of women's potential and ensure women's equal access to the labour market is not only a question of fairness, but also an economic imperative: the economic loss due to the gender employment gap amounts to € 370 billion per year. (https: //www. eppgroup. eu/newsroom/publications/eu-gender-equalitypolicy) It is estimated that gender gaps cost the economy some 15 % of GDP. (http: //www. unwomen. org/en/what-we-do/economic-empowerment/facts-and-figures) Despite these considerations, women remain underrepresented in the labour market and in management. In 2015, in EU women constituted 57. 6% of all graduates, however the difference between the employment rates of men and women of working age was 11. 6%; 31. 5% of working women work part-time vs. 8. 2% of working men; only 65. 5% of women with children under 12 works, compared to 90. 3% of men. (https: //ec. europa. eu/eurostat/statisticsexplained/index. php/Living_conditions_in_Europe_-_poverty_and_social_exclusion)
Hungarian context In Hungary, although the employment rate for women has increased, the gender employment gap remained high: 16% in the first quarter of 2018, well above the EU average of 11. 7%. The gap is the widest (20%) in the 25 -39 age group, due to significantly lower employment rates for young mothers. The impact of parenthood on the employment rate of women with a child under 6 years old was the second highest in the EU (at 42. 6 %). (2019 European Semester: Assessment of progress on structural reforms, prevention and correction of macroeconomic imbalances, and results of in-depth reviews under Regulation (EU) No 1176/2011)
Roma women - Hungary In Hungary, the situation of Roma women is particularly alarming: their employment are significantly lower even when compared to Roma men. One of the basic sources of vulnerabilities among Roma women is a low level of education and skills acquirement, resulting in a disadvantaged labour market position: 81. 4% have a maximum of an 8 th grade primary school education only 11. 1% have at least vocational education the number of those who did not continue beyond primary school education is 2. 5 times higher than non-Roma women the employment rate of women among the general population is 2. 6 times higher than that among Roma women.
