GALILEO GALILEI REGAN RIDENOURE
EARLY LIFE • Born February 15, 1564 – January 8, 1642 • Born in Pisa, Italy. • The oldest of six kids
GALILEO'S EARLY LIFE • Considered becoming a Roman-Catholic priest when he was younger • Studied at the University of Pisa for a medical degree • Created a thermoscope • In 1586 published a small book on the design of a hydrostatic balance he had invented • Did his work at the University of Pisa and the University of Padua
CONTRIBUTIONS TO SCIENCE • Applied science • Used the telescope as technology • Telescopic confirmation of the phases of Venus was a major roll in the scientific revolution during the Renaissance. • Galileo used his telescope to show that Venus went through a complete set of phases, just like the Moon. • This was among the most important in human history, for it provided the first observational proof that was consistent with the Copernican system.
CONTRIBUTIONS TO SCIENCE • Galileo did not invent the telescope, but he was the first to use the telescope to study the solar systematically. • Observed the Sun through his telescope, and saw that the Sun had dark patches on it, that we now call sunspots (he eventually went blind, most likely from damage suffered by looking at the Sun with his telescope).
• His works relates to our everyday life because we are always worried about global warming and always trying to learn new things about outer space. • Known as the father of both modern astronomy and modern physics.
