FWPS PBIS Tier 1 Module 1: PBIS Overview & Leadership Team October 26, 2016 *Training adapted from Lori Lynass, Sound Supports LLC & NWPBIS Network Erin Hutchinson, M. Ed. , NCSP Facilitator of Social Emotional Learning
FWPS Strategic Plan: PBIS… • Is a signature strategy within Goal 2: The Whole Child • Connects to Pillar 2: Safe Climate & Strong Relationships with Families & Community • Connects to Pillar 4: Data-Informed Continuous Improvement • Can have positive impact on measures of progress: – % of scholars who feel their school is safe and welcoming as measured by a perception survey – % of scholars participating in at least 95% of classroom instructional time • Increased attendance • Decreased discipline incidents
Learning Targets • Understand what PBIS is and why schools implement PBIS. • Consider staff buy-in and commitment for PBIS, including creation of shared vision. • Composition of PBIS Leadership Team with focus on culturally-responsive components. • Understand team roles, responsibilities, and meeting structures. • Determine where PBIS team fits into pre-existing school team structures.
Success Criteria • We can utilize resources to explain what PBIS is and purpose of implementing it. • We can identify a strategy to assess staff buy-in and commitment to PBIS. • We will begin to identify a PBIS Leadership Team, including effective family & scholar involvement. • We can work to integrate the PBIS team into existing school teaming structures. • We know the different team roles and meeting tools to run efficient team meetings.

Who Should Comprise the Tier 1 PBIS Team? • Active administrator • Representative building staff members, family members & students (secondary schools) • Members understand behavioral principles • Members should be collaborative, critical examiners who are also supportive. * Team members represent the cultures and ethnicities in the school & community • http: //www. wisconsinpbisnetwork. org/asse ts/files/flash/Thisis. PBIS/story. html - Play the “PBIS Team” portion
Culturally Responsive PBIS (CRPBIS): Leadership Team • Principal/active administrator on team, assures equity discussions • Team is representative and meets monthly • Team membership reflects student demographics or find other ways to represent perspective • Team has clear purpose statement with commitment to equity for all groups

Team Meeting Agenda, Minutes, & Action Plan 1) Elicit items & establish agenda before each meeting (Facilitator responsibility) – Helps keep the meeting focused and time efficient 2) Take minutes during each meeting that can be sent out afterwards (Minute taker responsibility) – Consider sending to key stakeholders 3) Use an action plan during the meeting to keep track of who will be doing what, by when, etc. You can refer back to this regularly. (Whole team responsibility) - Share responsibility for action items across team members
Team Meeting Considerations ü Consider projecting the agenda, minutes, and action plan during the meeting so that everyone can follow, and so the work is already done by the end of the meeting! ü Consider making these digital files for easy sharing!
