The Futurists loved speed, noise, machines, pollution, and cities; they embraced the exciting new world that was then upon them rather than hypocritically enjoying the modern world’s comforts while loudly denouncing the forces that made them possible. The most significant results of the movement were in the visual arts and poetry. Elements: Irregular, agitated lines that communicate the energy of movement.

Fearing and attacking technology has become almost second nature to many people today; the Futurist manifestos show us an alternative philosophy. Their aim and claim was to transform the mentality of an anachronistic society. Their aim was to portray sensations as a "synthesis of what one remembers and of what one sees", and to capture what they called the 'force lines' of objects.

The founder of Futurism and its most influential personality was the Italian writer Filippo Tommaso Marinetti expressed a passionate loathing of everything old, especially political and artistic tradition. "We want no part of it, the past", he wrote, "we the young and strong Futurists!"
