Tests Make sure you prepare for these tests! Khan Academy online is a great resource for the SAT in addition to other tutoring options locally Fee waivers for these tests are available through your School Counselor if you are eligible. TRANSCRIPTS RECOMMENDATIONS Hardcopy to be mailed: Request via a “transcript request card” in the School Counseling Office at least 10 school days prior to deadline; bring any Counselor Forms that need to be completed with you; first 2 are free, $2 per transcript after Ø Identify Teachers who know you well and think highly of you. Try to have at least one core teacher from 11 th or 12 th grade year included. Ø Ask at least 2 weeks in advance for any recommendation Common. App/Coalition: Submit request to your School Counselor via the application site CFNC: Indicate on your application that you would like your transcript directly sent SENDedu: Some colleges use this site for counselors to submit transcripts Midyear & Final transcripts and those for scholarships are FREE Ø Give recommenders a copy of your completed Senior Profile & Activities Resume Ø Make sure to follow instructions of how recommenders are supposed to submit their information (link in an email, mail a letter, submit to a site) Ø Some colleges and scholarships are open to receiving recommendations from coaches, advisors, employers, or community members too! ESSAYS Ø Make sure you are responding to the prompt Ø BE YOURSELF! This is a college or scholarship committees chance to get to know YOU! They want to hear your voice, passion, creativity, and inspirations. Ø Write a rough draft and have an English teacher or someone proof-read before submitting a final draft Ø Some schools will ask for multiple essays or short responses 7

Application. D eadlines Make sure you are researching deadlines for colleges and scholarships. For many college specific scholarships you need to apply to their early deadline to be considered Regular Rolling You submit your application by a specified date and receive a decision on a set date Colleges review applications as they are submitted and respond within an amount of time set by the college Early Action Early Decision You apply to an earlier deadline set by the college and receive admissions decisions at an earlier date than the regular response date. BINDING If you’d like to be considered for most large scholarships at a college you need to apply by this deadline. • • • If accepted you agree to withdraw regular admissions applications from other colleges Some schools have two early decision deadlines An agreement is signed by student, parent, & counselor 10

College Application Week October 21 st – 25 th • All NC Community Colleges are free to apply to (always) • We’ll have onsite admissions that week for some colleges BE PREPARED: • Make sure you know your CFNC Username & Password • Complete your Residency Determination (RDS) before this week! 11

Senior Meetings Planning Ahead Senior Profile/ Activities Resume College Fair For tomorrow, 9/30 • Come prepared with questions when you meet with your School Counselor • Have a realistic list of 3 -5 schools that you are interested in and you meet their average acceptance ranges. • Complete your Senior Profile & Activities Resume. Turn it in, typed, to the School Counseling Office by September 21 st • Attend the College Fair on 9/30 from 5 -8 at the Benton Convention Center to learn more about over 100 colleges and universities next week, & next year… to the best of your ability, pushing yourself in classes so Grades/Classes • Work colleges see all that you’re capable of Plan Ahead • Don’t leave any class work, college application, or requesting a transcript or recommendation letter to the last minute. • Research scholarships, stay in touch with your Counselor about what you’re doing, and remember that there are many pathways to success! 19
