Co-Curricular Activity The purpose of the Future Business Leaders of America is to provide, as an integral part of the instructional program, additional opportunities for business students to develop career and technical supportive competencies and to promote civic and personal responsibilities.
FBLA Organization • Largest and oldest business student organization in the world • Membership includes high school, middle school students, college and university students, faculty, educators, administrators, and business professionals • Headquartered in Reston, VA and organized on local, state and national levels
History • FBLA concept developed in 1937 by Dr. Hamden L. Forkner of Columbia University • First high school chapter chartered in Johnson City, TN on February 3, 1942 • First PBL collegiate chapter chartered in 1958 in Iowa • Competitive Events at spring State Leadership conferences, students compete in events testing their business knowledge and skills • Tomorrow’s Business Leader and FBLA Adviser’s Hotline publications • National Leadership Conference
Virginia Future Business Leaders of America • Began in 1942 at Spotsylvania High School • 1950 Virginia was chartered as the 11 th State Chapter of the FBLA • State Chapter is headed by State Chairman and the State Specialist

FBLA Pledge I solemnly promise to uphold the aims and responsibilities of the Future Business Leaders of America, and as an active member, I shall strive to develop the qualities necessary in becoming a responsible business leader.
FBLA Creed • I believe education is the right of every person. • I believe the future depends upon mutual understanding and cooperation among business, industry, labor, religious, family, and educational institutions as well as people around the world. I agree to do my utmost to bring about understanding and cooperation among all these groups. • I believe every person should actively work toward improving social, political, community, and family life. • I believe every person has the right to earn a living at a useful occupation and that this right should not be denied because of race, color, creed, sex, or handicap.
FBLA Creed continued • I believe every person should take responsibility for carrying out assigned tasks in a manner that brings credit to self, associates, school, and community. • I believe I have the responsibility to work efficiently and to think clearly. I promise to use my abilities to make the world a better place for everyone.
FBLA GOALS 1. To develop competent, aggressive business leadership. 2. To strengthen the confidence of students in themselves and their work 3. To create more interest in, and understanding of, American business enterprise. 4. To encourage members in the development of individual projects which contribute to the improvement of home, business, and the community. 5. To develop character, prepare for useful citizenship, and foster patriotism. 6. To encourage and practice efficient money management. 7. To encourage scholarship and promote school loyalty. 8. To assist students in the establishment of occupational goals.
