Presseerklärung von Prof. Holmlid am April 28, 2009 Ultra-dense deuterium may be the nuclear fuel of the future A material that is a hundred thousand times heavier than water and more dense than the core of the Sun is being produced at the University of Gothenburg. The scientists working with this material are aiming for an energy process that is both more sustainable and less damaging to the environment than the nuclear power used today. Imagine a material so heavy that a cube with sides of length 10 cm weighs 130 tonnes, a material whose density is significantly greater than the material in the core of the Sun. Such a material is being produced and studied by scientists in Atmospheric Science at the Department of Chemistry, the University of Gothenburg. Since under normal conditions it is not possible to have a configuration where the deuterons move around the electrons, this points into the direction of a large effective mass for the electrons, possible if the electron fluid forms vortices, because vortices have a large effective mass.

HDD-Generation im magnetischen Feld Ultra-dense deuterium D(− 1) is predicted to be a superconductor type-II at room temperature. Here we show that a magnetic field stronger than approximately 0. 05 T prevents the formation of, and even removes the D(− 1) material from the magnetic field. The observed lifting of the clusters from the magnet surface agrees with theory for the Meissner effect. Each chain or bead cluster of D(− 1) probably contains a central vortex, and it will have electrons with large orbits in the superconductive state. The experiments show strong magnetic effects and in the Coulomb explosion spectra, D(− 1) is missing completely in amagnetic field stronger than 0. 05 T.

Holmlids Conclusion

Holmlids Meinung zu DBEC: Dear Dr. Steinbock, I agree with what you say and from a theoretical point of view you may be right that one is expecting BEC at these densities in deuterium. I am certainly not a specialist in that field. However, there is proof from the experiments that the condensation is not mainly due to BEC as I wrote to you. Some of that information is not yet published. The forms of D(-1) suggested by Winterberg in the form of "towers" of bound deuterium atoms have neither been identified experimentally. Maybe BEC exists for D(-1) but only gives a small contribution to the bonding. Since the d-d bonds are stronger than p-p in p(-1) this may be the case. It seems difficult to extract bond energies etc. from BEC theory. Thus, I cannot on experimental grounds support the view that BEC is responsible for the bonding in D(-1). Best regards, Leif Holmlid
