F. U. N. (Fitness, Unity and Nutrition) Overarching Strategic Plan Mission Statement: F. U. N. is a model program dedicated to fitness, unity and nutrition in Garfield Vision: Garfield residents will have access to resources that engage them in the adoption of healthy behaviors Goals: I. Improve the overall health and reduce obesity of Garfield residents in their respective communities by: 1. Access to information and resources. Facilitate access to information and resources to enhance body composition specifically for the “over-fat and under-fit” 2. Engage residents of Garfield in activities. Access to information and resources n To provide health knowledge and physical activity learning assessments to enhance body composition. n To increase scores on learning assessments as compared to baseline. Engage residents of Garfield in activities n To increase the number of steps taken by formerly sedentary adults to at least 5000 steps per day within 1 year. Method: FUN Walk n n n n n A semi-structure web-enhanced walking program Support and guidance provided via discussions boards and monitored chats. Participants earn incentives for progress toward knowledge and physical activity (PA) goals. Maps of parks and recreation areas highlight local facilities Pedometers are provided to tract physical activity goals.
