Frontier Elementary End of the Year Expectations At the end of Kindergarten, your child should be able to: Reading and Writing: Math: • Identify alphabet letters out of order and their sounds • Be able to blend, segment words, & rhyme • Express ideas using sentences in writing • Reading high frequency words • Read at a Level D and retell a story • Match names to numerals 0 -20 • Count, make sets, understand more, less and equal (same) • Use objects/pictures to add and subtract • Solve story problems with objects • Name and compare 2 -D & 3 -D shapes

Frontier Elementary Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) Pinellas County Schools also offers VPK • Children who turn 4 on or before September 1, 2019 • Children who turn 4 between February 2, 2019 and September 1, 2019 can postpone enrollment in VPK until the following year • This allows parents of younger 4 -year-olds to postpone the year their child begins VPK, enabling the child to begin kindergarten as a slightly older, more mature student.

Frontier Elementary Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) Prekindergarten application period opens next week – Pre-K 3 is for children who will be 3 years old on or before Sept. 1 of the school year they are participating. Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) is a free, state-funded program that prepares children for kindergarten. To participate, children must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1 of the school year they are participating. Families interested in Pre-K 3 or VPK for next school year, can apply Jan. 19 through Feb. 1. To participate in VPK, families should apply for a VPK Certificate of Eligibility (voucher) from the Early Learning Coalition.
