Lenin's Policies Lenin needed to rebuild the economy and industry (destroyed by WWI and Russian Revolution) Created New Economic Plan (NEP) Small business remain in private ownership for profit The state controlled banks, trade & large industries To ensure political & economic success he established the foundations for a totalitarian state Exiled, imprisoned, & executed those that opposed the regime Built first concentration camps on European continent Began to limit religious activity, civil liberty, & free press After only 6 years in power, Lenin died suddenly in 1924 of a series of strokes

Industry He wanted to become an industrial power like other western countries. He called for construction of massive industrial centers to support military buildup & a strong economy.

Agricultural Production His plan was called COLLECTIVIZATION. It called for peasants to give up their own small plots of land & combine into one state-owned farm.
