Issues for Discussion Context: Increasing worldwide emphasis on fusion technology and on planning for DEMO programs. Challenging questions for fusion researchers: • What are the roles for large, integrated fusion nuclear facilities vs. specialized facilities (both non-nuclear and nuclear) for materials and technology development? • How can we maximize the benefits from ITER? • What are the major steps in the roadmap to DEMO, and what are the risks associated with various sequencing logics (e. g. , FNSF in parallel with ITER vs. in series? IFMIF when? ) • What is the role of international collaboration in developing fusion materials, technology, next steps, and DEMO? TOFE-2012 Town Meeting / 27 August 2012 2
