Safety Guidelines For this Lab: 1. Conduct yourself in a responsible and safe manner at all times during the dissection. 2. Wear all safety equipment (gloves and goggles). 3. Use the proper procedures to pin the frog to the dissecting pan. Do not dissect the frog while holding it. 4. Handle the scalpel with extreme care. It is sharp enough to cut through skin. 5. Always cut AWAY from your body and away from other students. 6. Never remove frogs/frog parts from the classroom. 7. Clean and WASH all materials/tables used for dissection and wash hands BEFORE and AFTER dissection.
Tools Used in Dissection: • Teasing or Dissection needle (A) which used to pull apart muscle tissue, • Dissecting scissors (B) which is used to cut through tissue, and • Forceps (C ), which is used to lift and move cut tissue. A B C
Tools Used in Dissection Continued: • Dissecting Pins (D)Holds down specimen • Dissecting Pan (E)Collects fluids and contains specimen • Scalpel (F) - sharp tool used to cut specimen D E F

Frog Organ Systems: 1. Oviducts- produces eggs 2. Cloaca- Opening used for laying eggs and passing solid waste 3. Small Intestines- absorbs nutrients 4. Large Intestines- absorbs water 5. Liver- removes toxins and waste from blood 6. Stomach- Digests food 7. Ureter- removes liquid waste from body 8. Urinary Bladder- holds liquid waste from body 9. Kidneys- filters body fluids and creates urine 10. Gallbladder- produces bile that aids digestion of food 11. Heart- Pumps blood throughout the body
