Active and passive voice Can anyone explain what the active and passive voice is? A sentence is written in active voice when the subject of the sentence is performing the action. A sentence is written in passive voice when the object is having something done to it. subject verb object The worm crawled through the apple. (Subject performing action) object verb subject The apple was crawled through by the worm. (Object is having something done to it by the subject) object verb The apple was crawled through. Challenge 2 – Complete challenge 1 and then write your own active sentences (Martin opened the fridge) and the convert into passive voice (The fridge was opened by Martin). Try and complete 10 of these. Challenge 3 – Complete challenge 2 and then write some passive sentences (5) and leave out the subject.
