Friday Phonics Segmenting and Blending Sentence writing
Nursery: Warm up your phonics brain! Listen to the jolly jingles track below: Don’t forget to do the actions
Nursery: Grown ups: Segmenting involves breaking words down into individual sounds (phonemes) Blending involves putting sounds together to make a word This activity involves the grownup segmenting words and the child blending the letters. You will need six objects on a tray. I would suggest a selection of these things: A fork, a hat, a cup, a jar, a jug, a sock and a pot. Make sure your child is familiar with the names of each object. Explain to them that you are going to say the word to them like a robot, and they have to point at which object it is. The grownup, in effect, is breaking the words down into individual letter sounds or phonemes. Examples: f – or – k s – o – ck p–o–t j – ar
Reception: You will need: Pens Paper Stopwatch or phone timer (ask your grown up to time you) How many times can you write like in one minute? (ask your grown up to time you)
Reception: Remember the phonemes we have talked about this week. Have a go at reading these words. flight groom train feelings bright shook chain greet
