TIDELearn How Does Contingent Work Affect SSDI Benefits? • Rutledge, Zulkarnain, King; Center for Retirement Research, Boston College, Feb. 2019 • How SSDI application, receipt, potential benefits differ for contingent workers in their 50 s and early 60 s, compared to those who work in more traditional jobs at those ages. • SSDI application rates are about one-quarter smaller for contingent workers and they are about one-third less likely to be awarded disability benefits. Also lower for The application and award rates are also lower for those with chronic condition, work limitation, or limitation in their Activities of Daily Living • These results suggest that contingent workers would benefit from a greater availability of information and assistance in navigating the SSDI application process. 21

Supported employment Do you currently have any employees who utilize supported employment? Minimum wage Does your business pay all of your employees at least Local, State, or Federal minimum wage – whichever is highest? To find out, we took an in-depth look at companies participating in the Disability Equality Index (DEI) over the past four years. 36
