Yesterday we looked at arrays, here is one I made. Remember rows go across

Yesterday we looked at arrays, here is one I made. Remember rows go across and columns go down. First I counted that there were 2 rows and there were 5 circles in each row. There are 2 rows and 5 columns. To find out how many circles I chose to count the columns so I counted in 2’s as there are 2 circles in each column. There are 10 circles altogether.

Look at this next example. First I counted that there were 3 columns and 5 sunshine in each column. There is 3 columns and 5 rows. To find out how many suns there are, I could choose to count the rows in 3’s or count the columns in 5’s. As we have already learnt how to count in 5’s, that’s what I chose. I counted the columns in 5’s, there are 15 sunshines. This is the same as 5+5+5=15
