FRIDA KAHLO • Frida Kahlo is a Mexican painter who was born on July 6, 1907 and died on July 13, 1954. • Frida always claimed to be born in 1910, the tear of the outbreak of the Mexican revolution. • She said that she wanted her life to begin together with the modern Mexico.

FRIDA KAHLO • Frida had a very strong will and often rebelled against things she felt were wrong about society. • She was proud of her Mexican heritage and her art work showed a particular sense of humor.

FRIDA KAHLO • Her life was marked by great pain. • At the age of five, she contracted polio. • But in 1925, an event happened that changed her life.

FRIDA KAHLO • In 1925, Frida was in a streetcar accident that caused severe injuries. • A pole pierced her from stomach to pelvis. • She had a total of 32 surgeries in her lifetime and had to wear uncomfortable corsets and endure “stretching” systems.

FRIDA KAHLO • Due to the accidents, many works were painted laying in bed. • Due to the accidents, she suffered her greatest sorrow of not being able to have children.

FRIDA KAHLO & DIEGO RIVERA • She had a great love, Diego Rivera, the great Mexican muralist who was 18 years older than Frida. • She once said “I have suffered two serious accidents in my life, one in which a streetcar ran over me…. The other accident is Diego. ” • Her father referred to their relationship as that of “the elephant and the dove. ”

FRIDA KAHLO & DIEGO RIVERA • When they got married in 1929, Diego was 40 years old, 300 pounds, and over 6 feet tall. • Frida was only 22 years old, 98 pounds, and 5 foot 3 inches tall. • Their relationship was a very stormy relationship. • They divorced in 1939 to only remarry in 1940.
