PROMOTION POLICY 9 th GRADE Promotion from 8 th Grade/0 -5. 5 Credits 10 th GRADE 6. 0 -11. 5 Credits 11 th GRADE 12. 0 -18. 5 Credits 12 th GRADE courses school year. 19. 0 Credits OR The student is able to enroll in all needed to graduate at the end of the current **If students do not pass a required class, they must retake that class until they are successful. There is no social promotion. STAAR/EOC The required EOC exams will be English I, English II, Algebra I, Biology, and US History. Students must pass these exams as part of their graduation requirements.
OPTIONS FOR ENDORSEMENTS v Multidisciplinary Studies v STEM v Public Services v Business and Industry v Arts and Humanities *Students can choose one of these five endorsement options. Some of the basic credits may also count towards an endorsement, depending on which endorsement you choose. Please ask your counselor for more details. *Colleges do not require any specific endorsement, however many prefer the Multidisciplinary Studies-Academic Four Core. Refer to your university’s website for their preferences.
COURSE LEVEL AND RANK v. The WGA (Weighted Grade Average) determines the rank in class. The student earning the highest WGA is ranked number one, and all others take the following positions in increasing numeric order. v. Students will receive ranks during their second, fourth, sixth, and seventh semesters of High School. It is not listed on Parent Portal. It is on the first report card in 10 th grade. v. Each student’s weighted cumulative grade point average on required classes for graduation is used to assign a rank position. (Exceptions: CBE and courses taken in Middle School) v. Correspondence courses and classes taken in summer school before ninth grade year count towards rank.
COURSE AND RANK v. Students are able to earn college credit by taking Advanced Placement Courses. Some of these courses include Dual Credit classes. v. The rank factor recognizes differences in level of difficulty between courses. It is not added to the grade earned. It is only calculated to factor GPA. Course Level Rank Factor Advanced Placement (AP) and Dual Credit AP 1. 29 Pre-Advanced Placement, Honors, GT non-AP, and Dual Credit non-AP 1. 15 1. 00 Regular v. With the exception of UT Austin, all public universities in Texas (once student applies) accept any student who graduates in the top 10% of their High School Senior class.
HONOR GRADUATES v. Students achieving high standards of academic excellence shall be recognized at the graduation ceremony based on the following criteria: Completion of the Foundations High School Program-Distinguished Level Of Achievement (DLOA) Overall weighted grade average (WGA) for ALL courses taken in high school through the end of seventh semester is greater than or equal to 90. WGA does not round up. For example, a 99. 999 is still a 99. v. Honor Graduates meeting the criteria specified above shall be designated as follows: Honor Graduate Designations Cumulative Grade Average Summa Cum Laude 100+ Magna Cum Laude 95 -99 Cum Laude 90 -94
MINIMUM ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS v. If your child is absent, call the attendance office to let them know. Please provide a note upon the child’s return to school. v. State law requires that a student may not be given credit for a class unless the student is in attendance for at least 90 percent of the time the class is scheduled to meet. § A note regarding why you were absent, should be turned in within two school days upon returning. § When a student reaches the tenth absence, they will be responsible for attending Saturday School. **A student can receive passing grades for a class and not receive credit for that class due to lack of attendance in that class. v. Students will lose credit unless each and every class is made up in an acceptable manner, such as, but not limited to, Saturday School, after school hours, etc. Contact your alpha Assistant Principal with any attendance questions.
PARENT PORTAL v. A secure site that gives parents more information about their child’s daily performance at school. v. To register visit http: //portal. neisd. net v. You can view information about your child’s grades, attendance, and food service. v. You can also email teachers through the parent portal. v. For any login or technical issues with Parent Portal please call the NEISD Help Desk at 210 -356 -4357 or review the “Tips” column on the right side of every page.
INDIVIDUALIZED GRADUATION PLAN (IGP) v All Freshmen are in the process of completing their IGPs. v. Parents will receive an email and be able to view their child’s graduation plan and selected endorsement through Parent Portal. v. Parents must approve their child’s plan within five days. Counselors will then review and approve the plan.

PSAT/NMSQT v. All Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors at Reagan took the PSAT on October 11, 2017. v. Along with the test results, students will receive information to connect to College Board and Khan Academy accounts for free personalized study recommendations. v. Scores from the PSAT in your child’s Junior year will be used to determine which students are National Merit Scholars.
