FREQUENCY TABLES
FREQUENCY TABLES • In many experiment we are likely to have a large amount of data. To make things easy we use frequency tables. • Eg: Numbers were picked out of a hat in the order below. Put the data into a frequency table. • 1, 3, 4, 1, 3, 3, 2, 3, 1, 4, 2, 1, 1, 3, 3, 1, 2, 4, 3, 2 Result Tally 1 2 3 4 Frequency

FREQUENCY TABLES AND PROBABILITY • If the frequency table was to record a probability experiment, we can then use our frequencies to calculate the probability of each event. • We find the probability by: frequency ÷ total number of trials Result Tally Frequency 1 |||| | 6 2 |||| 4 3 |||| || 7 4 ||| 3 20 Probability

FREQUENCY TABLES • Sometimes the rows will be split into intervals in which the data could fall: • E. g. The following is the result of a test. • 4, 20, 21, 11, 5, 10, 14, 6, 15, 42, 50, 49, 7, 16, 17, 7, 48, 41, 29, 8, 35, 9, 36, 41 Result 010203040 -50 Tally Frequency Probability
