Major Effects of the French and Indian War � 1. France had to leave this part of North America and British territory increased significantly. � 2. British settlers moved westward across the Appalachian Mountains in greater numbers. � 3. British Americans were more unified and leaders were developing (George Washington, age 21) � 4. This change would lead to greater British control of the colonies and more acts/taxes imposing on the colonists to pay the debt from war WILL BE IMPORTANT LATER � 5. As tension increased between Britain and its colonies, France took America’s side WILL BE IMPORTANT LATER
Pontiac’s Rebellion �As more British settlers began to move west, they incited a revolt by native American groups led by Chief Pontiac. �This meant that the British had to pay soldiers to defend settlers who were moving west.
Proclamation of 1763 �October 7, 1763 �King George III issued this order to stop colonists moving west of the Appalachian Mountains because they did not want to have to pay to defend the colonists from native American attacks anymore. �This angered the colonists, who wanted to move west to settle new and fertile land.
