Results King William’s: No territorial changes. Queen Anne’s: Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Hudson Bay become British. Deerfield Massacre. King George’s: Louisbourg captured, but later returned.
Ohio River Country In the early 1750’s both side eye the Ohio River country.
French Moves 1751: Official French policy is to drive British from the Ohio Country. They begin to build a string of forts.
Ohio Land Company In 1747 Ohio Land Company is formed. They are given 200, 000 acres of land. Company is formed by wealthy Virginians. Robert Dinwiddie and Lawrence Washington are just two.
George Washington Dinwiddie sends Lawrence Washington’s brother, George, into the Ohio Country with a message to: GET OUT! The French reject.
Fort Duquesne April 17, 1754: French seize control of British fort at the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers. Re-name captured fort, Fort Duquesne
Washington Attacks May 28, 1754: Washington encounters a small French force. Half King kills Jumonville after he has surrendered. Surviving French escape to warn of the British.
July 3, 1754 700 French with Indians allies attack Washington. Outnumbered, his forces surrender.
Surrender Document The surrender document is written in French. Washington signs not knowing that the surrender terms accuse him of murdering a French Diplomat, Jumonville.
