Fitzgerald, F. Scott. The Great Gatsby. Scribner, 2004. The Great Gatsby is a novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald that captures the essence of the 1920 s and all of that decade’s hedonism. Its central character, Jay Gatsby, in spite of his flaws, is a hero who is the embodiment of hope in the face of insurmountable odds. Jay Gatsby is an example of Freedom and Freedom of Thought in his refusal to see anything but the good in his dream of a life with Daisy. This idealism, which will ultimately be his undoing, is exactly why he is a good example of Freedom of Thought. When Nick, the narrator, tries to explain that it is impossible to repeat the past, Gatsby responds “incredulously. ‘Why of course you can!’” (110).

Founded in 1851, the paper has won 122 Pulitzer Prizes (the most prestigious award in American journalism), more than any other news organization. Benjamin Lay is a good example of Freedom and Freedom of Thought because he was willing to challenge the status quo and speak out against slavery, even if it meant he would be kicked out of the church.
