1. When and where were you born? (use earlier artwork) I was born in Malden, Massachusetts on May 12 th, 1936 Zambezi, 1959 Enamel paint on canvas
Could you talk about your family background? (use earlier artwork) Yes, I can. I was born to parents of Italian descent. My father was a gynecologist and my mother was a housewife but later on took up landscape painting. At the moment, I am a father to five children. The Marriage of reason and Squalor, Enamel Paint
Do you have any favorite work? Can you explain your artistic style or movement? (Use his/her signature art work) Yes I do, its called the Harran II. This piece of art that I created is Abstract art. I made it during the Washington Color School movement. I wanted to create something simple yet colorful. Harran II, Polymer and fluorescent polymer paint on canvas
5. Where do you get your inspiration? From where you get your idea for an art work? (Use his/her well-known work) I get my inspiration from the artists working with abstract expressionism, which includes Jackson Pollock and Franz Kline. Do you think you created a masterpiece? (Use his/her well-known work) Yes, I do. I feel like the way that i combined the colors green and yellow to make a pattern, just perfect. The lined pattern that I used to create this is what blends it together good. Fez, Fluorescent Alkyd on canvas
7. Can you explain your technique? (Use his/her signature art work) The techniques that I use include working with abstract art as one of my main styles. I like creating things with shapes and that we don't see in everyday life and just putting it on a piece of paper. I decide just to start with random shapes and see where i can start putting it together to make everything fit nicely together. Lipsiko, felt
Analyze one of his/her artwork (Use his/her signature art work) I can see that in this piece of art, he decided to use a variety of colors. I am really curious why he decided to use these kinds of shapes in his painting. It does look like random shapes rather than harmonizing together as one with the different colors. Why do you think your artwork is admired? I think that it's admired because of the kind of creativity that I put into my work as well as my colleagues. I had one man tell me that he liked my artwork because I make it as ugly as you can make it today, and I just started laughing. Memantra, 2005, Metropolitan Museum of Art
When is the most difficult time when painting? Most difficult time? Oh, whenever I have to decide what to put here and what to put there. Also, how to make it fit in with what is already on the painting. I can get really difficult and frustrating at times La scienza della pigrizia, oil paint
Is your family supportive of you? Yes, my family is. They care that I enjoy what I do and that is all that matters to them. Also, they can see that what i've been working with most of my life, has caused me to become well known around the world. West Broadway, Oil on canvas
Did you have any other job other than being an artist? Why did you leave that job for art? (Use his/her well-known work) No, actually I did not have another job. Throughout my schools years, I focused on working with painting even though I majored in history. What did you learn? Have your thought and opinion! I learned that Frank was born to an Italian Family. Throughout his life, he transitioned to different types of art styles from abstract to creating sculptures. It was pretty interesting to find out that he got some of his inspiration from the renown Jackson Pollock and i never would have expected that.
