Motivation • In this contribution, we propose to remove packing extended header and add the format of fragmentation extended header (FEH) in order to carry the information of fragmented payload. • In IEEE 802. 16 m system, the size of generic MAC header (GMH) is reduced to 3 bytes. Thus, packing multiple MSDUs of different sizes into one PDU becomes unnecessary, but the fragmentation of MSDU is required to optimize the channel utilization. • Because a PDU only contains one fragmentation, the length information of fragmentation is implicitly indicated by the length field of generic MAC header and can be omitted in fragmentation extended header.
Example of Short Fragmentation Extended header • FC (fragmentation control): FC is used to indicate the last fragment • SN (6): MSDU sequence number • FSN (3) : Fragmentation sequence number
Example of Long Fragmentation Extended header • FC (fragmentation control): FC is used to indicate the last fragment • SN (11): MSDU sequence number • FSN (6) : Fragmentation sequence number
Proposed SDD Text • 10. x. 2. 1 Fragmentation and packing extended header IEEE 802. 16 m supports MSDU fragmentation. Each MPDU contains either a full MSDU or a fragmented MSDU. The fragmentation extended header should include the following fields : l Frame control (FC): FC is used to indicate the last fragment. l Sequence number (SN): SN is used to indicate the sequence number of MSDU. l Fragmentation sequence number (FSN): FSN is used to indicate the fragmentation sequence number of MSDU.
