Today’s Agenda Customer Need Customer Value Our Solution Sales-Specific Information
Customer Problem Statement Engineer at the Plant I’d like to install a system that gets information from sources to users in a reliable way. I’m a good engineer, but not a network engineer. I may only touch the network configuration once every 18 months or so. I do need to be able to see the status of what is happening. Upgrading the network is difficult because it doesn’t improve plant performance—it can’t compete with those types of projects. I just want the network to work and I don’t want to worry about it. EPC Purchaser/Engineer I want the network to work, to meet my Purchaser’s specification, and to take me zero time to configure. My company can save money if the switches can reduce the amount of cable that needs to be installed, so I’d like switches to be able to stand up to more than an office environment. I don’t want any troubles.
Customer Value “No Unplanned Outage Events” Improve Assurance of Operating Integrity • Enable connections between stations • Allow for software changes and configuration changes that have previously unplanned data flow paths to work without physical work Reduce Maintenance and Construction Costs • Better monitoring of network status • Multiplex signals rather than pulling new cables
Additional Value—Benefit with Little Cost Without Compromising the basic network function! • Add/permit other communications on the network • Segregate non-control network traffic in VLANs • We have shown immunity of VLAN traffic to cross-talk from other VLANs What applications do you have in mind?
Existing Switches Lifecycle Status We wish to avoid any “bump” that may happen when the Enterasys switch families become obsolete and we introduce the Extreme switches. Current Status: • I-Series: MATURE. Last time buy occurred. Expect stock to be expended 2 Q 18 • A 4, B 5, C 5: AVAILABLE. Expect transition to MATURE 3 Q 18. • S-Series: PREFERRED. No transitions expected within 3 years. That is, there are no reasons yet to stop sales. All have a FIVE YEAR support period (in MATURE/LIFETIME) following withdrawal from active sales by Extreme Networks
