Summary of Interim Findings – AM Peak • With three‐lane work zone pattern, 10‐ 20% diversion will keep average travel speed over 40 mph • With optimum diversion (equilibrium), network model estimates I‐ 40 westbound travel time to increase through work zone from 8. 6 to 12. 7 minutes for three‐lane pattern • Model estimates 33% diversion for three‐lane pattern • Model estimates volume increases over 500 vph for Wade Avenue, US 64, US 1, and NC 55 • Diversion from I‐ 40 estimated to result in travel time increases over 30% for I‐ 440 EB, US 70 northbound, Hammond Rd. northbound, and Rock Quarry Road westbound 2525

Summary of Interim Findings – PM Peak • With three‐lane work zone pattern, 40 mph average travel speed can be maintained with approximately 30‐ 40% diversion. • With optimum diversion (equilibrium), network model estimates I‐ 40 eastbound travel time to increase through work zone from 8. 6 to 13. 9 minutes for three‐lane pattern • Model estimates 36% diversion for three‐lane pattern • Model estimates volume increases over 500 vph for US 70, and over 1, 000 vph for US 64, US 1, and NC 55 • Diversion from I‐ 40 estimated to result in travel time increases over 30% for Wade Ave. EB and Davis Drive SB 2626
