Mystery Art Starter: Ask a parent/sibling to put x 3 objects on a bag for you (they can be anything – a watch, a spoon, a toy car) Place your hand into the bag and have a feel of an object inside. Now place your pen/pencil on the page. You cannot take your PERFECTIONISTS LISTEN UP!! pencil off the page. You have 2 minutes to draw what you can feel! Repeat this with the other 2 objects! What Is Continuous Line? Continuous line is when the artist either doesn’t take their pen, pencil or brush off the page. The work is created using one continuous line that isn’t broken until the end. Continuous line can also be used in wire work, like the artwork of Alexander Calder. It allows the artist to work quickly and freely, meaning that they take more creative risks! Your task Today you are going to create your own continuous line drawing, of an instrument of your choice. Either choose an instrument you have in your home, or research some pictures of instruments on the internet. BE CREATIVE – cello, clarinet, guitar, trombone etc. Once you have chosen your instrument, try and draw it (either from memory, or with it in front of you), but remember you should be using a continuous line. Try your hardest not to take your pencil off the paper. Once your line is complete, you can go over it in black pen and sign it at the bottom of your page.

Plenary Pablo Picasso – remember him from last week? Picasso’s portraits are abstract and a little surreal. Picasso’s portraits were mostly painted from memory. Have a think about the questions below and talk them through with an adult. Why might Picasso be linked to continuous line art? Does his style match this style?
