Formal Curriculum Pathway
Within the Primary Phase, students work within semi-formal learning environments where they are provided with every opportunity to develop literacy and numeracy skills through play, higher ability groups and discrete interventions. Once students move into the Secondary Phase, learners are placed into teaching groups depending on individual need, this is determined by what we know about our young people. The distinctions between each pathway are flexible allowing for movement between the models for some pupils. AT WHAT STAGE DO STUDENTS BECOME FORMAL LEARNERS ?

* The assessment system for Numeracy and Literacy used with the Secondary and Post 16 Phases is based on the Entry Level milestones for English and Maths and provides a detailed overview of the functional skills pupils require in order to gain Functional Entry Level qualifications in preparation for adulthood. This ensures that work undertaken by students in the Secondary Phase follows on into the Post 16 Phase providing a cohesive and meaningful pathway with opportunity to move into higher level Functional Skills qualifications.
Formative Assessment Will be ongoing and inform teachers and students of next steps in learning Summative Data Will be undertaken in June and provide an overview of the steps gained within the FAP. The system used to collate this is followed into Post 16. DATA GATHERING FOR THE FORMAL ASSESSMENT PATHWAY
