Formal Commands (Usted/Ustedes) Using commands in Spanish
El imperativo (Los mandatos) Commands are used to tell someone to do something. Examples: – Speak Spanish! – Wash the dog! – Clean the house! – Turn up that loud music!
How to formal commands in Spanish It is very easy to form commands for usted and ustedes in Spanish. 1 • 2 • Begin with the yo form in the present tense and drop the o. If it is an –ar verb, add –e for usted and –en for ustedes. • If it is an –er or –ir verb, add –a for usted and –an for ustedes.
Ejemplos: • • • llegar llego (present tense yo form) llegue (usted command form) lleguen (ustedes command form) ¡Lleguen temprano! = Arrive early!

¡OJO! Regular –car, –gar and –zar verbs have a spelling change in the “usted” and “ustedes” commands.
