Riham Musa (Palestine) Riham Musa was shot in the stomach by an Israeli soldier for carrying a kitchen knife at a checkpoint. She forgave the soldiers because she knew that violence breeds more violence so she became someone who fights for Palestinian people and stops crime with the law. She is now a law student trying to change the violence forced upon Palestine. I selected Riham’s story because it is similar to this other girls story we learned about who also got shot for trying to do something good and trying to get a education which she was denied.
Andrew Rice (USA) Andrews brother, David Rice was killed during the collapse of the world trade center in 2001. Ever since then Andrew has dedicated himself to underlying causes of violence. He has joined a group called Peaceful Tomorrows which is filled with families suffering from 9/11 trying to find non-violent ways to fight terrorism. I selected this story because i almost had to suffer from loss on this day. On the day before 9/11 my father and older brother were both at the one of the towers.
Jean-Baptiste Ntakirutimana (Rwanda) Jean’s family was murdered in front of him by the guy that he meets 14 years later. When Jean meet him so many years later he came into the room trembling and scared, he couldn’t even look him in the eyes. He explained to Jean all the things he had done including killing her mother. The man cried just as much as he did while telling the story. I selected this story because it shows how Jean knew he had to learn why this man murdered his family and others around him. Jean knew it was his mission to understand the man that caused him so much pain for the last 14 years.
My Forgiveness Quote The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong. Mahatma Gandhi This quote shows me that only people who can look past all the pain and suffering can truly forgive. If your mother was killed right in front of you, you would try to get revenge or even right? Only the strong can forgive because they can take that pain and shove it aside to forgive that person because they know things like getting even or revenge will only bring more pain and suffering to those around you and you included. If you kill one person, their loved ones will try to kill you, and your love ones will try to kill them and the never ending cycle begins. Thats why only the strong can forgive, because they have the willpower to stop the violence right then and their.
Is Hamlet's revenge justified? I think Hamlets revenge isn’t justified because his goal was to kill king Hamlet's murder but he got almost everybody else killed just to do so. Throughout the whole story a lot of different innocent characters died because of Claudius and Hamlet. If Hamlet had a different approach instead of trying to “kill” his way to the truth maybe everything would of turned out differently. At one point in the story he kills two of his best friends just because the king ordered to kill him. He could of caught them in a trap and tried to talk some sense into them. he didnt even care that he murdered them (“They are not near my conscience. Their defeat does by their own insinuation grow. ”)(V. ii. 111) Another thing Hamlet doesn't realise maybe his mind was just playing tricks on him and their really was no ghost. Honestly, a ghost telling you a whole story like that, i wouldn't believe it. Maybe being and love and trying to kill someone at the same time makes you a mad man ( “I loved ophelia. Forty thousand brothers could not with all their quantity of love make up my some. What wilt thou do for her? ”)(V. i. 108). In the end after killing off all his loved ones Hamlet kills Claudius but at the cost of his own life as well. So no, hamlets revenge wasn't justified.
