Pearl Case • Body wrapped in black plastic bags, placed on the ground in a large wooded area. (egress) • Ransom note mailed to house, (postal system) • The apartment where murder took place • The murderer’s vehicle • Transportation from vehicle to dump spot • His place of work ( visit by Detectives) • Where was it solved? Dump site and workplace linked by plastic packing fiber
Bridgetown Basement • Wife went missing • Husband sells car to junk yard and has car crushed, make the yard a crime scene • Home is searched, • She is found one year later in the basement • She had hung herself using a wire • Alcoholic • Wire broke and she fell behind piles of boxes
Trash • An entire garbage route • Each garbage truck used to haul along that line • Garbage dump itself.
Mall Lady • • The mall parking lot Her home Her husband Her vehicle Husband’s vehicle The assailant Assailant’s residence The van
Developing a Crime Scene Strategy • Review what has already occurred before your arrival on scene • Set Objectives: Interviews, Processing Scene, Photography, Evidence Collection, Search Warrants, Running prints etc. . • Resources: Personnel , Equipment & Expenses • Limitations: Set as wide parameter as possible limited by jurisdiction & distances Murder Investigation Manual © ACPO Centrex 2006
Implement the Strategy • Secure the Scene; post officers, set up a log, name logging officer & handoff, name all those entering and leaving with time and date, under orders from superior only those authorized by him or her can enter, senior officers and fellow officers, people to motels, screaming family members keep out • Preserve the Scene; unaltered state, DNA contamination, weather, animals Murder Investigation Manual © ACPO Centrex 2006
