Job Description - “A forensic engineer investigates materials, products, structures or components that fail or do not operate as intended, causing personal injury or damage of property. ”
Employment Opportunities - Since September of last year Forensic engineering jobs have decreased 26%. - Forensic engineers just don’t seem to be getting into high demand anytime soon. - If anything there will be less of a demand in the coming years.
Annual Wages - Salary range is from $66, 000 -$90, 000 per year - Average annual wage is approximately $46, 000 (yearly average), but is likely to increase over time
Working Conditions - Forensic engineers work off of pictures taken from the scene of a crime. So normally, they work in labs or in an office. - Occasionally, they need further evidence to predict what caused a fire or explosion so they go out into the field and inspect whatever was presumed to have caused the incident.
Training and Educational Requirements - 4 -year engineering degree - Major in engineering - Request to be a licensed engineer for the state you plan to work in. - Complete an engineering test called the Principles and Practice of Engineering. - Finally, take a year long course where you show off your engineering skills to professionals.
Case Summary: Miami Dade College Parking Garage Collapse - In October of 2012, a Florida college’s parking garage collapsed, killing four construction workers and injuring at least eleven other people. - The garage was under construction when it suddenly collapsed - It was concluded to be a structural failure as the amount of tension and stress put on the bottom layers of the concrete created micro-cracking, eventually causing the damaged concrete to completely break apart. - VIDEO
