Force Summation By Jack Williamson
Force Summation The objective of using force summation is to get maximum power by using as many body parts as possible in the correct order and correct timing, from biggest to smallest muscles. When taking a full court shot in basketball, to use force summation you start by bending at your knees to get low and to bend your elbows when holding the ball so you can launch the ball when the correct time comes. The sequence of muscles being used taking a full court shot in this order are your Gluteous maximus, quadriceps, gastrocnemious/solious, tibialus anterior, deltoids, litisimus dorci, triceps then muscles in your forearms. Your start by extending your knees to spring upwards, then jumping off your tip toes to get maximum height, and to get momentum going forward through the ball then you flex your shoulders as you launch the ball then finally extend your elbows to force the ball forwards. You need to use as many muscles in the correct order and timing in order for you to use force summation properly. It is extremely important in many sports because force summation gives you good technique when doing your sport and it maximises your chances of shooting a basketball into the hoop or hitting a ball hard with top spin in tennis.
Projectile Motion My angle of release Launch base These are all different angle of releases, these are all factors that affect the trajectory of the ball. Other factors that affect the balls flight path is the speed of release. I cant vary the height of release. If I was to shoot the ball at a higher angle then the ball would have less chance to get into the hoop because it has more distance to travel and it is harder to control over that distance. If I shot it at a lower angle it would have less chance for it to go into the hoop because there is a smaller area for the ball to get into the hoop so there is a small margin for error. I should have shot the ball at a slightly lower angle because there is more chance of the ball going into the hoop if I shot it at a lower angle. This is because the ball travels less distance and is easier to control over that distance.
Levers
Levers When using the physics of levers, the end of the bat is moving at the fastest speed due to the fact it’s the furthest from pivot therefore the end of the bat needs to cover more distance so it needs to move much faster than the rest of the bat. It covers the same amount of degrees but a much further distance. This can be benefitted when it comes to playing soft ball because if the ball hits the end of the bat with a full swing it will go a very long way. The only problem with using a long bat is that its harder to control but its moving very fast and the end point. When you hold the bat further up or use a shorter bat, you cant hit the ball as hard because its not moving as fast but you have more control over the ball. This can be used when doing a bunt in softball, the ball travels a small distance but you have more control over the ball when it hits the bat.
