Force • Force is a push or pull developed due to interaction between objects. • Force has both magnitude and direction. • The strenghth of the force is its magnitude. • Unit of force is Newton.
Net force • When a number of individual forces are applied on a body, the resultant force is known as net force. • If forces F 1 and F 2 are applied on a body in same direction, the net force will be F = F 1+ F 2. • If forces F 1 and F 2 are applied on a body in an opposite direction, the net force will be difference between these two forces. ( suppose F 2 > F 1, the net force will be F 2 -F 1 and the body moves towards the direction of F 2). • If forces F 1 and F 2 are applied on a body in an opposite direction and F 1 = F 2, the net force F= 0
Forces in same direction F=F 1 + F 2
Forces in opposite direction(F 2>F 1) F=F 2 - F 1
Forces in opposite directions( F 1 = F 2) F= 0
Effect of force • Force can change the state of motion of an object. • Force can change the shape of an object. • Force can change the direction of an object. • Force can alter the speed of moving object. • Force can bring about some of these changes together.
