Left Click: a Selection Tool Click n Click and drag n Double click n Triple click n
Right Click: Pop Up Menus Right Click on any significant area of your screen and a Pop Up Menu appears with many different options.
Scroll Knob and Button allows you to quickly move around in your document.

Insert Key This key toggles back & forth between: n Inserting text OR n Replacing (writing over) text Scandalous !!!
Backspace Key (Similar to Delete) The Backspace key deletes text by moving the cursor back over the text.
Delete Key (Similar to Backspace) The Delete key ‘eats’ text to the right of the cursor.
Backspace & Delete Keys These keys have many other functions depending on the application being used.
Shift and Ctrl (Control) Keys Options as Selection Tools n Shift plus Left Click: Selects a ‘range’ n Ctrl plus Left Click: Selects individual things
Shift plus Left Click n To select a Range: Range Hold either Shift key plus Left click on the first and the last item in the range
Ctrl plus Left Click Keys n To select several Individual items: items Hold either Ctrl key then Left click on each item
Prt. Scrn/Sys. Rq Key Prt. Scrn/Sys. Rq copies a picture of your computer screen onto the Clipboard You then Paste the picture into your document to use it.
Windows Key +D: ‘Toggles’ (goes back and forth) between the Desktop and all open windows +E: Opens Explorer window +F: Opens Search/Find window +R: Opens Run window
Ctrl (Control) Keys n n n Selecting Sentences Copying / Duplicating Zooming
Ctrl Keys – Selecting Sentences Holding Ctrl while Left Clicking anywhere in a sentence selects that sentence.
Ctrl Keys – Copying/Duplicating Right Clicking on a selection then holding Ctrl while dragging it will copy/duplicate it.
Ctrl Keys – Zooming Holding Ctrl while Scrolling will Zoom in or out (larger or smaller) on your document.

MS Word Tabs Using Tabs speed up document preparation and editing. n n n Default Tabs are set every half inch. To change the default tabs, Left Click on the Tab Style Indicator and select the type of tab you want. Left Click on the Ruler at the point where you want the tab. Tab Style Indicator Default Tabs

MS Word Format Painter The Format Painter allows you to transfer a paragraph’s format to another Paragraph. 1. Click on the paragraph whose format is desired 2. Select the Format Painter toggle tool 3. Click on the paragraph where you desire the format. (Note: By Left Clicking twice when you select Format Painter you can transfer the captured format to multiple paragraphs. ) Format Painter

MS Word Insert Page Breaks Place the insertion Point (| ) where the desired page break should be. n From the Insert Menu select Break…. n Select Page break n Click OK. n
MS Word Insert Page Breaks Option 2 n Place the insertion Point (| ) where the desired page break should be. n While holding down the control key press the enter key.
MS Word Insert Date & Time n n n Place the insertion Point ( |) where you want the time and/or date. From the Insert Menu select Date and Time…. Select the time and/or date format you want and click OK. Check here if the time and date are to be automatically updated when the document is saved.
MS Word Headers & Footers n n Select Header and Footer from the View menu. The Header and Footer tool bar should appear along with the header. Input the header and/or Footer content. Preset formats from the Insert Auto. Text drop-down window can be used. These are easy to use preset formats This button will switch you to the footer
MS Word Readability n n n Select Options… from the Tools menu Click on the Spelling & Grammar Tab Check the Show readably statistics check box Select OK. Select Spelling from the Tools menu After the spelling is completed a readability window will appear. Select this tab Check this box

MS Word Print Preview With Print Preview you can see how your document will look when it is printed.
MS Word Shrink to Fit From your Print Preview screen click on the Shrink to fit icon. This lets you ‘shrink’ shrink a multiple-page document by one page.
