Infection route & application timing • Virus must be ingested by larva to initiate infection. • Larva continues to feed until virus replicates enough to kill it • Virus picked up on body and mouthparts will contaminate feeding site & infect larva when it starts to feed. • Target hatching eggs and wandering larvae infection may occur as larvae chew out of egg case.
Application timing Oriental Fruit Moth Larvae Apply Madex® HP at 3 -5% egg hatch April May June Aug July Sep Oct Codling Moth Larvae Apply Madex® HP at 3 -5% egg hatch April May June July Aug Sep
Application timing • Initial application should be made at 3 -5% egg hatch for each brood of Oriental Fruit Moth and/or Codling moth. • Use the OFM or Codling Moth Degree Day Model that is validated for your particular region. • Peak efficacy of Madex HP depends on accurate application timing. Photo by Robin Spitko, Ph. D.
Environmental persistence • Persists for 7 days + on shaded foliage. • Common recommendation: reapply after 7 -8 sunny days • Mixing with organosilicone type spreaders may reduce efficacy by not allowing for even distribution of OB’s (washes them to the edges).
Additional Recommendations for Madex HP • Compatible with other orchard pest management tactics - Excellent fit with pheromone-based mating disruption - Tank mix with most insecticides/fungicides/acaricides - Do not mix low rates (<1 oz/Acre) with copper fungicides - Keep p. H between 6 and 8
Labeling (Caution) Application Rate 0. 5 -3. 0 fl oz/acre - 0. 5 fl oz/acre when mixed with conventional insecticide. - 1. 0 -1. 5 fl oz/acre when used as a stand alone insecticide treatment in conventional systems. - Make at least two applications of Madex HP per OFM or CM generation For use on: Apple, Quince, Pear, Nectarine, Apricot, Plum, Prunes, Cherry, Walnut, Almond, Pluot, Aprium and other stone fruit crosses. 4 hour REI and 0 day PHI
Additional Information Madex HP is exempt from tolerance, thus reducing MRL concerns. Madex HP is safe on beneficials and specific to OFM and CM. Storage for 90° F for 90 days, if longer than 90 days store refrigerated (can be frozen with no negative impacts on virus viability).
