Football (Atari football) was a 2 player arcade and console game released in 1978. it was an American football game which was eventually adapted into a four person game. Even though it wasn’t the first game to incorporate the trackball, it was credited with popularizing it. Here is a similar image of the trackball.
‘Tennis for two’ one of the first games developed in the early history of video games. This was released in 1958. This game is what started gaming all together. There had been no previous attempt at a virtual game so this was a huge step forward for the future. This controller is the most basic form of controller however this set the foundations for the controllers we have today.
It was also the first game that Nintendo's most successful character , Mario, was born. Donkey Kong was the iconic game that helped get Nintendo's wide spread video game career noticed. It was released in 1981. Donkey Kong is known for being the start of the platform style game.
Mario bros was released in 1983 as the first standalone Mario game and this is the franchise that would inspire Nintendo for generations.
Doom is an iconic game as it was the first, first person shooter game which would inspire game company's for generations. This is the game which inspired games like call of duty, halo, csgo, etc. Doom was released in 1993.
The Play. Station was created by Sony Interactive Entertainment on December 3, 1994, with the launch o the original Play. Station in Japan, and has been owned by that company ever since. The original console in the series was the first video game console to ship 100 million units, 9 years and 6 months after its initial launch.
The original Xbox was released on November 15, 2001 The Xbox was the very first console with a hard drive. This meant that gamers no longer had to keep buying memory cards, like with the PS 2 and Gamecube, or rely on save batteries in cartridges like the Gameboy Advance.
The Nintendo Wii was first teased in 2005 and with this teaser came the realisation of what gaming could accomplish. The Nintendo Wii released a revolutionary set of controllers, the Wii mote and the nun-chuck, which would use motion in the remote to control the game Along with the Wii motes, the Wii also introduced a new piece of technology which would track the movement of the Wii mote called, the Wii motion sensor bar. This uses infrared sensors to track the signals of the Wii mote.
The Xbox created a new way to play games on the fourth of November 2010 when they introduced the Kinect for the Xbox 360. this used a camera to track the players movement. Similar to the Wii sensor bar, it tracks the motion, but it tracks the players motion rather than the remotes infrared signals.
The first virtual reality headset was released on March 28 th of 2016 by a company called Oculus VR. This would change the gaming industry forever because it created a 3 d environment bearing an uncanny resemblance to the real world. The headset uses the players motion to look around in the game to replicate a real life situation with the ability to look around, walk and grab onto anything within the game. The equipment, like the Wii mote and the Xbox Kinect, incorporates the users movements to interact with things in the games. It also uses a grip function in the remotes so you can grab and interact with the game.
