Professional Learning 1. Professional Learning is provided to you so that you can meet the Induction Standards…it IS NOT random, but centered around the California Standards for Teaching Profession (CSTPs). Your chosen PD should relate to your ILP goals. 2. 3: 45 Start time is to honor as many teachers as possible. Please make every attempt to arrive on time, but a few minutes late is no big deal. Teacher Retention. . . the studies provide empirical support for the claim that assistance for new teachers and, in particular, mentoring programs have a positive impact on teachers and their retention. Richard IRngersoll and Jeffrey M. Kralik The Impact of Mentoring on Teacher Retention: What the Research Says Research Review, 2004 16
Induction Goals • Further develop and apply knowledge and skills that improve teaching and student learning • Provide support and guidance • Build upon professional learning and practices established in pre-induction experiences • Provide access to a professional learning community to address current challenges and needs • Foster leadership skills and self-directed learning • Allows Candidates to be recommended for a Clear General Ed or Ed Specialist Credential 17
What it is and what it’s not Induction IS 1. 2. Required by CTC to clear a credential Aligned to Commission requirements & Induction Program Standards. 3. A confidential relationship between Induction IS NOT 1. Something we do “to” teachers, but “for” teachers 2. 3. Evaluative/only support One size fits all- The ILP is about YOU Candidate & Mentor 18
19
CSTP and the CTP The California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTPs) are in “levels” in the Continuum of Teaching Practice (CTPs) Induction Programs support candidate development and growth in the professional standards, leading to a demonstration of readiness for a clear credential as established through professional goal setting and refined within an Individualized Induction Plan (ILP) 20
Individualized Induction Plan=IIP This is the of your professional learning 21
