FMP Music video Izaak cooper
Why I chose music video as my practical area • I chose Music video as it allows me to express my full potential in premiere and after effects as well as show my on screen talent as well as my skills as a director. • Music Videos are a big interest of mine and a passion I would like to pursue. It is something that you can express yourself and without it being too obvious and a music video isn’t usually the centre of attention. • My strengths in this area would be my skill to use premiere although my knowledge of after affects is quite basic so I will need to improve those skills in order to give myself the highest mark possible. • I think that Music videos could bring some good opportunities, not only in the music industry but also in the filming and editing industries as well, this is good as it gives me multiple door ways to go through in my career.

My research and planning into Music videos • For research I will look at secondary research such as; other music videos that inspire me, interviews with other music video directors who may give good tips, music video director’s websites (if they have one) • For Primary research: I will conduct a textual analysis of other Music videos that are a similar style to what I'm aiming for. I think this is the better than the surveys and questionnaires as it closer shows what I'm aiming for in detail. • And for my planning I will do a storyboard of 6 – 12 panels, concept work to go along side it, a recce and risk assessment for my locations, and a production diary.
Project strengths • I think that the project has strength in not only being a solid and successful music video but to reach the audience of the music genre I will be choosing. This will not only prove that I can make music videos but also make it relevant to the genre and style of the song. • I have multiple access routes to models, locations, equipment that isn’t handy all the time. Having someone with a car in the group will really help with getting to locations fast and without hassle, having friends that are willing to help in the music video means that models or equipment helpers will be sure to be of use. • In my group we are ambitious with our ideas and some may not be met, but we will try our best to complete all of our ideas.
Weaknesses and concerns • The only aspect I can see being an issue is the time frame to complete everything we need and want, this could be a problem as we get closer to the end of the final major project. A solution for this is creating a calendar and that is clear and following that so that we don’t slip behind on any of the productions.
Target audience • My ideal target audience is late teens early 20’s, I think that both men and women could enjoy this music video equally although men may initially find it more appealing, I would say middle to working class people will probably enjoy it more as it will be relatable to their lives. People who live in the city live probably find it more appealing to them as this is where most of the artists are from. • I think that the model will appeal to the target audience as they’ll see someone who closely resembles their own lifestyle.
